Immigration Questions: Clark International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport

Sharing with you my #IOExperience in December of 2023

Who am I?

I am a 32-year old girl, self-employed/entrepreneur, married and retained my own surname after marriage, travelling with a 33-year old privately-employed husband, to welcome the new year in Hong Kong. It’s our first time to travel abroad together. It’s my first time traveling as an entrepreneur.

Even though we made it obvious that we're travelling together while on queue, 1 officer asked us to separate and go to 2 different counters during the immigration clearance. Here’s our experience as husband (H) and wife (W):

Wife

IO: What’s your destination?

W: Hong Kong

IO: Purpose of travel?

W: Holiday / Tourist

IO: Are you travelling with someone?

W: yes, my husband (points to H being interviewed by another IO)

IO: When did you get married?

W: Last year

IO: Ok (cleared; no further questions)

Husband

IO: Are you travelling with someone?

H: yes, my wife (points to W being interviewed by another IO)

IO: When did you get married?

H: Last year

IO: Ok (cleared; no further questions)

Documents we prepared for the Immigration (everything digital copies only):

W

Proof of business (DTI / BIR registration proof / receipts)

Social media account of my business (it’s a micro business, home bakeshop)

H

Company ID

Certificate of Employment

H & W

Return e-ticket

Marriage Contract

Proof of travel fund (bank statement)

Proof of booked hotel, activities and pocket Wifi on the Klook mobile app

Thankfully, it was a smooth #IOExperience for us. No one can truly predict the questions an immigration officer will ask but I hope our experience will help you get ready and gain confidence in your upcoming #IOExperience.

Our Hong Kong trip is nothing short of memorable. The bookings I made via #Klook helped me feel less pressured when I finally faced the immigration officer. I was imagining that if and when I get asked for proof of bookings, I only have the #Klook app to show for my hotel, wifi, activities and Octopus card purchases. I actually thought that if they look at the app, they wouldn’t doubt it anymore as it’s hard to fake the bookings on an app!
